Description
This museum was formally inaugurated on July 1981. The purpose of the IJSHOF is to honor Jewish men and women worldwide, who have accomplished extraordinary achievements in sports and to recognize other Jewish men and women who have made significant contributions to society through sports. Elections to the Hall of Fame are conducted by the International Selection Committee, whose names are not publicly disclosed (other than the sitting Chairman – Mr. Joe Siegman). The idea of establishing the Hall of Fame was realized through the generosity of its founders in the USA, who continue to support it to this day, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Alan Sherman. Mr. Sherman was also the motivator behind the creation of the “Israel Sports Hall of Fame” in 1993, in conjunction with the Israel Olympic Committee. Its aim is to honor and give recognition to the delegations representing Israel in the Olympic Games. To date, 246 individuals and teams from 20 countries have been inducted in the museum.
