Description
An exhibit depicting the drama of the day of surrender to the Jordanian legion, the expulsion of the Jews from the old section and all the procedures involved in it. On May 28, 1948 at 16:00p.m., after months of siege and fighting, the defenders and residents of the Jewish Quarter surrendered to the troops of the Jordanian Legion. The events of the day, the surrender and all its aspects, can be seen in the photos of John Philips, who accompanied the Jordanian Legion soldiers, and immortalized with his camera the battles and the conquest of the Jewish Quarter and its destruction. These photos are exhibited here, alongside photos of the same sites prior to the war and after the Quarter was restored.
